In the bustling suburbs of early 1900s Mumbai, two Italian brothers opened a cozy café filled with warmth and delicious treats. This charming spot, beloved by the city, marked the beginning of what would become the beloved global brand, Monginis.
However, during World War II, the brothers were deported, making the café's future uncertain. In 1956, Mr. Husain T. Khorakiwala saw an opportunity and bought Monginis, combining it into his new department store, Akbarallys. The business thrived, but it was the heartfelt pleas of the café's former employees that truly changed its fate. They asked Mr. Khorakiwala if they could continue working and sell their beloved bakery products. He agreed, having been moved by their dedication.
The early bakers' hard work eventually paid off. The department store eventually closed, but Monginis thrived. By the 1970s, the first standalone outlet had opened in Bandra, Mumbai, and the franchising concept had begun to take root.
Today, in 2024, Monginis is one of India's largest patisserie retail chains, with 1600 retail outlets and many manufacturing facilities, providing over 10,000 jobs.
Monginis also crossed borders. In 1987, Mr. Khorakiwala brought the family's bakery expertise to Egypt, a country rich in cultural heritage and a love for celebrations and good food.
By 1993, Monginis was well-established in Egypt, spreading joy and delicious cakes in cities like Cairo, Alexandria, and the Delta region. Today,
Monginis is a leader in the Egyptian bakery industry, with over 120 shops nationwide providing jobs to more than 3000 locals.
Our journey in Egypt began in a modest factory in 1993.
We embraced the franchise model, venturing into entrepreneurship with faith.
This model transformed our operations, leading to significant growth and respect in the industry. From one factory to 19 factories and from a few outlets to 1600 in India, Monginis has become a franchise giant.
In Egypt, we have more than 120 outlets, offering delicious delights for nearly 30 years and carving a niche as a pioneer in baked and confectionery products.
Throughout the years, Monginis has embraced the latest production technologies to ensure the finest quality for both freshly-baked and confectionery products. Our patisserie stores across Egypt bring joy to millions with our mouth-watering goodies.
